Awarding plate ceremony of Chinese Character Design and Research Center was held grandly in Beijing on July 20th.The department chief of the Language and Information Management Department under the Ministry of Education Li Yuming presented the all the centers with plaques on behalf of the Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Education and dean of National Language Commission Yuan Guiren. YuanGuiren made a speech in written.Vice-president of Beijing University Mr Lin Jianhua and General Director of Founder Electronic Co., Ltd. Ren Weiquan were present at the awarding plate ceremony.
    Lin Jianhua said at the awarding plate ceremony that the developing of history reflects the great progress of human society and science and technology in the process of development of Chinese character which is from the early inscriptions on oracle bones unearthed to different kinds of typefaces like hundred flowers in bloom.The Chinese character builds the civilizition of China. The font has now become people’s ideological mark, clothes of written word and facial expression of inner world.Because of its particularity and complexity, Chinese is faced with new challenges in the computer epoch.And everybody of our country is all along in the efforts from government, school ,enterprise to specialist and scholar.Chinese Character Design and Research Center which is jointly built through cooperation between the Language and Writing Information Management Department under the Ministry of Education and our school is awarded plate formally today. We thank for the trust and support to our school by the leaders of the Ministry of Education.

    Beijing University began to study the computer word stock since August,1974, and over the 30 years Beijing University Founder Electronic Co., Ltd. has brought in hundreds of Chinese fonts and national literal pool and they have been widely used in the fields of newspaper office, publishing house, printing house, TV station and network site.WangXuan, the professor of Computer Science and Technology Institute of Beijing University,invented the world leading techology as information compression, high-speed deoxidation and output method of high resolution fonts, which got a patent in Europe and 8 Chinese patents separately and successfully solved the baffling problem in processing Chinese by computer. He developed the electron publication series of world leading level, and initiated the revolution of“taking leave of lead and fire, greeting light and electricity” in the printing and publishing industry of our country and gained huge economic benefit and social effect, and created a good model of combination of “production and learning and research”.

    As the main organization assuming the work in the Center, we have a deep sense of weighty responsibility.We shall further exploit the advantages in word processing and typeface designing of Computer Science and Technology Institute of Beijing University and Beijing University Founder Electronic Company Limited, under the instruction of the Language and Character Information Management Department under the Ministry of Education, have wide cooperation with specialist scholars and relevant organization, work hard for the best literal pool of Chinese character, and meet the demand of using words by various media as printing and publication,network site, TV station and make a due contribution to carry forward the culture of China.

    The Administration of News Media, the Ministry of Information Industry, the Overseas Chinese Office under the State Council as well as the Chinese Lexicographical Association,the Chinese Literary Institute, the Chinese Applied Language Institute, the Chinese Association of Newspapers and the Periodicals of China, the Chinese Modernization Institute of China and the Chinese Information Institute of China delegated people to attend the awarding plate ceremony.
